This project required using a label that a company currently uses and redesigning it. I chose Peñafiel, which is a Mexican sparkling water company. I liked the company’s backstory. The creators based their company name on Mexico’s rich biodiversity. They combined peña (boulder) and fiel (faithful) to create their company name.

Sketches

After making 20 sketches based on Peñfiel’s history, I chose two concepts that would fit best. I decided to use more of the images that people associate with Mexico.

Typeography

I selected Arial as the font because it is a standard font that is easy to read. I wanted a font that is known for its strong style and readability. The overall shape and structure of the letters also suited this project well.

Color

The colors were selected based on the fact that this is a company from Mexico. I wanted common neutral colors found in Mexico.

Label

I felt like the actual label needed improvement. I wanted the shape of the label to not be a common rectangle. I got the idea to make the label into the shape of a classic Mexican clay house. This really tied the whole Mexican theme together.

Background

I wanted to use my digital art skills in this project. I decided to digitally draw the background of the label myself. Ensuring that I captured the essence of a Mexican clay house.
